The Public Wants to Know More

Recent natural or man-made disasters as well as scandals, specially the ones linked to process mishaps in food processing companies and general goods, have led the public in various nations (not only in the G8 group) to increase demands for information and accountability. Details of government and industry risk management strategies, policies and procedures are no longer restricted to a few high-ranking officials. Rather, they are being sought after and challenged by the public, often with serious consequences for the organizations involved.

There is a strong and increasing demand by the public to know its level of exposure to risk, and the efforts being undertaken to mitigate those risks. Often, unfortunately, even the simple definition of risk is misunderstood and the resulting confusion leads to discomfort and even disputes.
